6 Day Northern Xinjiang Discovery Tour

Day 1

We will welcome you at the Urumqi airport and take you to your 4* hotel.  Then we will visit the big bazaar area and have dinner at one of the many special Uyghur restaurants nearby.

Day 2

In the morning we will begin the (5 hr) drive to Urhu/Wu’erhe commonly referred to as “Ghost City/Wind City” due to the eerie winds there.  We will visit the interesting area of Urhu and the Karamay Ghost City.  Camping in tents at Urhu will help you learn more of the local culture.

Day 3

Today we will set out for Sayram Lake.  Soak in the beauty of the lake and surrounding mountains.  You can ride horses here and we will enjoy the experience of having dinner and sleeping in a Kazakh yurt near the lake.

Day 4

Take a leisure hike around the lake area in the morning before having lunch in a shepherd’s home.  Then we will drive thru Ili to Chaychun Village where we will have dinner and stay overnight in a local Uyghur home.

Day 5

Enjoy walking around Chaychun village and soaking in the sights and sounds of local life.  For fun you can try your hand at some farm labor at my parent’s home.  Then lunch will be served to you by my family.  On our way back to Ili City we will visit a local village market.

Day 6

Today we will visit a Uyghur and Kazakh handicrafts market and see some of the sites of Ili such as the Big Mosque, Kore Fort, Tugluk Tomur Tomb, etc...  Then you have the choice of taking a late afternoon flight or the overnight train back to Urumqi.
