11 Day Xinjiang Special Discovery Tour

 

Day 1

Fly into Urumqi (preferably by noon) and drive to Turpan (about 3hrs).  Begin tour of Turpan.  In the evening we will enjoy dinner at the Grape Valley while enjoying a Uyghur performance.

 

Day 2

Today we will continue enjoying the many sites of Turpan.  Places to visit include the remains of the ancient cities of Jiao He and Gao Chang, Imin Tower and Mosque, the unique Kariz water system, Astana Tombs, Flaming Mt., Bizekilik 1000 Buddha caves, and more. Then it will be time to return to Urumqi to catch the flight to Hotan.

 

Day 3

In the morning we will visit the Hotan bazaar, sure to be an unforgettable experience as you will feel as if you’ve taken a step back in time.  Then we will head into the desert to begin our camel trek, yet another step back in time as you get to experience the life of those who traveled by camel caravans! 

 

Day 4

We will enjoy the beautiful sunrise from our desert view before retuning to the hotel where you can clean up and rest a bit.  Then we will visit the night market before calling it a day.

 

Day 5

On our way to Kashgar we will visit Yarken where you can choose to visit the Golden Mosque, famous tombs, local pharmacies, etc… Next we will visit the knife factory in Yengisar before continuing on our way to Kashgar. 

 

Day 6

Today we will tour Kashgar City.  There are many sites to see such as the Idkadh Mosque, Old City, non-touristy handicraft street, famous tombs, night market, etc…

 

Day 7

We will set out in the morning to Karakul Lake.  On our way we will stop a Opal Village to pick up some fruits and local bread.  As we continue on our way we will stop to take pictures of the breathtaking scenery.  We will enjoy lunch in a Krygyz yurt beside the lake.  Then there will be time to ride horses or camels or trek around the area some before we settle in for the night in the yurt. 

 

Day 8

Today we will venture to the Chinese-Pakistan border crossing where you will be able to enjoy more of the amazing scenery of this mountainous area. Then we will return to Tashkorgan to visit the Stone Fort, Tajik Cultural Relic Museum, and grasslands.  After dinner in a Tajik home you can clean-up and get a good night’s rest in the comfortable Crown Inn Hotel. 

 

Day 9

 After finishing our time in Tashkorgan we will drive to Oytagh Natural Glacier Park.  Once again we will experience the real life of Kyrygz nomads as we stay the night in a yurt.

 

Day 10

Today we will trek to the glaciers and take some pictures.  After having lunch in a shepherd’s yurt we will return to Kashgar where you can rest before you begin your journey back home.

 

Day 11

Though today we must sadly say “Good-bye”, we will never forget our new friends!
